Economic Impact

  • The business of chemistry powers the economic growth that keeps Texas and the U.S. competitive, and provide vital economic support for families and communities across the state.

  • Developing and producing the products of chemistry creates a ripple effect, responsible for nearly six million American jobs and nearly 26 percent of America’s GDP.  The chemical industry employs over 800,000 people in the U.S., but the job opportunities don’t stop there. For every one job created from the business of chemistry, 6.3 jobs are created in other sectors. In addition, the average annual salary of a U.S. chemical industry employee is $104,800, which is 47 percent higher than the average U.S. manufacturing wage.
