Generator Improvement Rule Updates in Louisiana and Texas

Brittany Tones and Michele Foss, Sr. Project Managers, Spirit Environmental

Floral A1

The Generator Improvement Rule (GIR), as adopted by the EPA in 2017, made sweeping changes to hazardous waste generator requirements established under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). State-delegated RCRA programs have begun promulgating regulations to adopt the GIR. Louisiana is slated to adopt a state-modified version of the GIR in May 2020 and Texas has indicated that adoption of its own variation of the GIR will occur in late 2020. We will highlight the proposed requirements/modifications to each state’s version of the GIR, provide an update on where the adoption is in the regulatory process, and explain how these changes may affect you.
